Professor Jacob Kaimenyi warned vice chancellors and chairpersons of university council of the industry shying away from universities that are known for strikes in a meeting held at Kenya institute of curriculum development Nairobi. Information provided by Jeremiah Kiplagat.
“Employees tend to shy away from graduates from universities that are known for strikes” said Professor Kaimenyi. He urged the concerned bodies to do what they can to minimize unrest in universities.
According to a study by Dr.Hukka Wario the Garissa university college council chairman on why students often go on rampage, students in most universities riot due to power blackouts, poor quality of food or reduced varieties in some colleges, favoritism in teaching and awarding marks by lecturers, and the shortened semesters to accommodate 3 semesters in one academic year.
“semesters shortened from 16 weeks to 14 weeks to accommodate 3 semesters in one academic year necessitated by accelerated intakes fuelled by over increasing numbers of Government sponsored students and Privately sponsored students is also another reason,” said Dr. Wario when he presented the case study.
In matters of the rights of the comrades, sometimes power has to be used whether Kaimenyi likes it or not.
